The Buff Betty is back this year and we have moved it to June, at a brand new location for us and adventure racing! The days are longer and warmer, perfect for adventure racing. Over the past twelve years, the Buff Betty has introduced hundreds of adventurous women to the sport of adventure racing. The original all-women’s race in the US, it is an amazing day in the great outdoors, challenging yourself without the guys around, having fun with friends, and learning what your limits are. It is also the perfect race to introduce young kids to the sport. Race with your daughter or niece!

This years' race will launch out of the awesome Occoneechee State Park, located in southern VA, on one of the largest lakes in the state, Bugg Island Lake. With 17 miles of trails for hiking and biking, as well as numerous access points on the lake for paddling, we are excited to show off this gem of land, as we continue our relationship with the Virginia State Parks. As with previous Buff Betty's, this years' race will have two courses. The original 6-hour beginner-friendly race, and a 10-hour advanced course. If you are new to the sport, introducing a friend to the sport, or maybe racing with a daughter or niece, this is the race for you. If you are an experienced racer, training for longer races, or think you have the fitness and navigation to take on the 10-hour course, that's the one for you.

And to make things even more exciting, we have two guest course designers for this years race. Andrea Anderson and Chip Dodd of Team Thisability Adventure Racing. Over the years they have both been very active and supportive of this race—from volunteering their time on race day and making race videos for us, to vetting some of the previous courses, as well as taking on the race itself. The Buff Betty was one of Andrea's first races, back in 2017, and last year, as a soloist, she won the 10-hour race overall. We can't wait to see what they come up with, and know it will be fun, challenging and creative!

This race will offer solo, 2-person and 3-person team options. There will be no 4-person team option. Teams must travel together the entire race. The race is NOT A RELAY.

LODGING OPTIONS:

Occoneechee State Park has some great lodging options. Cabins, many campsites and yurts. If you want to stay in the park we highly recommend you make a reservation ASAP. The race will sell out the park.

The nearest town is Clarksville, Virginia, located 5 to 10 minutes from the park. There are several decent hotel options in the town, as well as the usual selection of Airbnb’s and B&B’s in the area.
