XTERRA Charlottesville

Come Ride the Course: April 22nd.

Come pre-ride the XTERRA Charlottesville bike course with the course designer himself! Andy Guptill will be leading a lap of the bike course beginning at 9:30 am. The course will also be open to pre-riding and -running on your own from 9 am to 2 pm. (Please be off the course no later than 2 pm). Maps will be available, and all riders and runners will be required to sign a waiver prior to starting. Helmets are also required while on the bike.

Parking: Follow parking signs to the field on the left as you come up the entrance road hill.

The Miller School is private property and is only open to pre-riding on pre-set days: March 18, April 1, and April 22. Please don’t ride outside of those times.

That’s right…. XTERRA is returning to Charlottesville in 2017! A brand new course at the Miller School of Albemarle will feature challenging climbs, miles of sweet singletrack trails, and spectacular vistas of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Below is the overview map of the Triathlon, Duathlon, and XTERRA 10K Courses. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Miller School is private property and unauthorized use of the trails and the lake is prohibited. The course is NOT open for pre-riding except for the dates listed below. Please respect this policy! Poaching the trails will endanger the permit for this race.

Race Day Schedule

4-6:30 pm: Registration and check-in location to be determined

Saturday, May 20

6:00-7:30 am: Trail run check-in

6:00-8:00 am: Triathlon and duathlon check-in. There is a 15 minute walk from registration to the transition area, please plan for this!

7:45 am: Trail run race brief (near registration)

8:00 am: Trail run starts (near registration)

8:30 am: Triathlon and duathlon race brief (at swim start)

9:00 am: Triathlon and duathlon starts (There will be three waves: 2 for the triathlon, 1 for the duathlon).

Required Gear

Helmets are required by all racers while on the bike

Mountain bike with at least a front suspension is highly recommended


XTERRA follows the Swimming Conduct rules for Wetsuit and Speedsuit Use established by the USA Triathlon at all Championship Races (Pelham, Beaver Creek Regional Championships), the XTERRA USA / Pan Am Championship (Utah), all XTERRA World Tour events, and the XTERRA World Championship.

Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The wetsuit policy for elite athletes shall be determined by the USAT Athletes Advisory Council. The AAC has set the wetsuit maximum temperature for elite athletes at 68 degrees for swim distances less than 3000 meters and 71.6 degrees for distances of 3000 meters or greater. Any swimmer wearing a wetsuit with a thickness measured in any part greater than 5 millimeters shall be disqualified.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The race is being held the same weekend as UVA Graduation! If you are planning on staying in the Charlottesville area, please make reservations as soon as possible, as hotels and inns will fill quickly. You can also stay in Waynesboro and Staunton, which are 30 minutes and 40 minutes from the school, respectively.
